Formula and assumptions

Paver count uses the nominal paver dimensions plus joint spacing. Actual layout, edge cuts, pattern, and breakage can change the quantity.

Layout and waste

Patterns, border courses, cuts at edges, irregular shapes, breakage, and joint width influence paver count. Use the actual face dimensions of the paver and include the spacing between units when estimating coverage.

Worked example

A 20 × 10 ft area is 200 square feet. A 16 × 16 inch paver covers about 1.78 square feet before joint spacing, so the base count is roughly 113 units; waste allowance increases the order quantity.

Frequently asked questions

Are the prices current NYC contractor prices?

No. Prices are user-editable examples and are not presented as current market rates or a contractor quote.

Should I order exactly the calculated quantity?

Not without checking site conditions, measurements, product yield, supplier ordering increments, and the shape of the pour. Use the result as a planning estimate.

Can this calculator confirm NYC code compliance?

No. Confirm applicable requirements, permits, inspections, and design details with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.
