Formula and assumptions

Formula: length × width × thickness. Convert inches to feet by dividing thickness by 12. One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet.

How to use the concrete calculator

  1. Measure the length and width of the pour in feet.
  2. Measure thickness in inches and use a consistent measurement across the slab.
  3. Choose a waste allowance for uneven subgrade, spillage, and measurement variation.

Worked example

A 20 ft × 10 ft slab at 4 inches thick has a base volume of about 2.47 cubic yards. A 10% allowance brings the planning quantity to about 2.72 cubic yards. The actual order should account for site shape and supplier ordering increments.
